Asset

In Benia, talent is an investment.

At some point, someone decided you were worth owning—your strength, your skill, your resilience, or simply your willingness to endure. You signed a contract, swore an oath, or were bound by circumstance. On paper, you are free. In practice, you are an asset.

Your patron provides resources, protection, and opportunity. In return, you are expected to perform when called upon. As long as you remain useful, doors open for you. If you fail—or refuse—the consequences are swift and unforgiving.

In Benia, ownership does not always come with chains. Sometimes, it comes with expectations.

  • Tool Proficiency: One Gaming Set
  • Equipment: Gaming Set (same as above), Fine Clothes, Paper (a copy of your contract, encoded or symbolic), Trinket (a personal token from your patron), {{{Menge}}} Silber

Feature: Contracted Asset

You begin the campaign under the protection—and control—of a powerful patron. The exact terms of the contract—and the nature of the patron—are determined collaboratively with the DM.

Starting Advantage

  • You may freely choose your starting equipment, selecting any nonmagical items you could reasonably purchase with starting wealth. This represents preparation and investment by your patron.
  • You begin play with one common or uncommon magic item, subject to DM approval. This item is considered part of your contract and may bear markings, enchantments, or conditions tied to your patron.

The Contract

  • Your patron has a vested interest in your success. As long as you continue to fulfill expectations, the patron may:
 - provide access to restricted resources
 - arrange introductions or protection
 - offer additional rewards at key story milestones (DM’s discretion)
  • Your patron may call upon you to perform tasks, favors, or missions. These requests are not constant, but they are not optional.

Breach of Contract

  • Refusing a task, failing critically, or actively acting against your patron constitutes a breach of contract.
  • Consequences may include:
 - loss of patron benefits
 - pursuit by enforcers or legal agents
 - social or economic blacklisting
 - reclamation of assets (including the magic item)
